Every project has a starting point, which for me is always envisioning the finished space. In this example, I was tasked with creating an office space that was functional, but also sleek and stylish.
PROCESS IN PRACTICE
OFFICE BEFORE
OFFICE AFTER01 | CONSULTATION
During our discovery call, we discussed the client’s goals for the office and the scope of the project and I shared what they could expect during the design process and in regard to pricing.
02 | FOUNDATIONS
I sent a proposal outlining the scope, estimated design fees, and timeline. Once the agreement was signed and the deposit received, I collected important details about the client’s home, preferences, and budget in preparation for our kickoff meeting.
DESIGN DIRECTION SKETCHES03 | DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
At the kickoff meeting, we toured the home and discussed the client’s inspiration. During measuring + inventory, I documented the space and the existing pieces to incorporate into the design.
At our first design meeting, design direction, I presented a mood board to give the client a feel for the aesthetic direction of the space, a proposed furniture layout, and my vision for custom cabinetry and shelving to house the client’s book collection and provide hidden storage.
Once the design concept and proposed layout were approved, I began selections + sourcing, where I refined the layout, confirmed the ideal sizes of the furniture, and selected the furnishings and accessories.
At the second design meeting, their design presentation, I presented the detailed design and every item selected for the office, complete with samples, swatches, and pricing for approval.
DESIGN PRESENTATION DETAILS04 | PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Once the client approved the furniture, accessories, and built-ins, we moved into the project management phase. I worked with the cabinet maker to fine-tune the cabinetry and shelving design. I also worked with a decorative painter to create a custom stain finish that complemented the adjacent rooms.
At the same time, purchasing began for window treatments, furnishings, light fixtures, art, and accessories. I managed tracking + coordination, and the client received weekly communication updates so they knew how the project was progressing.
05 | THE REVEAL
Once the custom items were completed by the artisans and the furnishings were delivered, installation began. I was on site to oversee the placement of rugs, furniture pieces, and window treatments.
For the finishing touches, I arranged the client’s books and personal pieces alongside additional accessories to complete the space.
